Corporal Punishment
|
Dear Colleagues
Greetings!
It is a matter of pride that our school has achieved great heights in a very short span of time and our students are excelling in all the fields. This is a reflection of the hardwork, sincerity and dedication of all the teachers who are toiling to provide quality education to their pupils. There are, however, times when we face a situation where we are not able to get the best of potential from some of the students. It’s a universally held view that every child is a potential human resource and an asset to the country, and it is our duty to provide the right ambience and environment to the learners to develop and enrich their latent talent. To develop a balanced human resources, an individual should receive education in an atmosphere free from all fear.
Any form of corporal punishment develops a sense of fear and in an environment filled with fear, real education cannot take place. It is therefore, imperative that we should adopt methods that instill a sense of self-confidence and self-dependence in our students. If a student shows erratic behavior, it is an opportunity to find the cause of such a behavior and to address the underlying factor. The use of corporal punishment was long ago been abolished & declared an offence by the CBSE & State Government and continues till date. As such teachers should adopt such methods wherein their love reinforces confidence in the students and instills a sense of self-belief in them. It is imperative that corporal punishment is to be avoided at all costs. The students, at all times, should be dealt with politely and no use of harsh language to reprimand them is to be resorted to. No student is to be sent out of the class as a punishment for any type of irresponsible behavior exhibited by him/her. The parents who come to us to seek counselling for their ward’s behavioural and other related issues should be shown the best courtesy and proper guidance. If any student fails to appear in an examination due to sudden illness or participation in any competition, he/ she should be allowed to take the exam on any other possible day.
Your cooperation in this matter is solicited and I fervently hope that it will go a long way in building a generation of people who contribute their best for the progress of our country and the whole world.
